Charles Gute Heralded by the San Francisco Examiner as "Conceptual Art's Brash and Breezy Punster," Charles Gute has been active in the Bay Area art scene for the last decade. His exhibitions include the SF Arts Commission's outdoor "Exploration: City Site," the West Coast installment of "Bad Girls" at the Wight Art Gallery, "I Like Conceptual Art/Conceptual Art Likes Me" at The Lab, Sculpture Walk 1997 at Yerba Buena Gardens, and a recent solo show entitled "Post-Conceptual Decoration" at Patrica Sweetow Gallery. Gute received his M.F.A from the New Genres department of the San Francisco Art Institute in 1989, a time and place particularly receptive to the excitement generated by new media experimentation. Like artists in the Sub-Techs exhibition, Charles Gute frequently uses digital tools to create and fabricate his own art, though their application is not usually apparent in the finished work. Gute is represented by Patricia Sweetow Gallery in San Francisco. |
