Radical Epiphanies: A Series of Interdisciplinary Temporal Dislocations Randy Nordshow & Tarrl Morley Transitoire 11/20/99 Composer/performer Randy Nordschow premieres Transitoire, a new interdisciplinary work constructed around a small moment of the Earth´s rotation cycle. Colloborating video artist Tarrl Morley has created a visual cantus firmus by leaving his video camera untouched while filming the moon slowly passing through its field of vision. Over the span of this single perceptual event, the music composition juxtaposes several layers of periodicity: vaying lengths of musical time shaping the form, rhythm, register, and textural density of the sound. Natural laws and physics determine the sound production, adding periodic random vertical divisions to teh structute to allow the viewer minute transitions to other modes of time perception. Transitoire is scored for five acoustic guitars, one wind instrument, an amplified space heater, water, video projectors, and a collection of chronometers.
