Live Art LAB Submission Guidelines
Lise Swenson is an interdisciplinary artist, activist and educator.
Much of her work is collaborative and all of her themes use the
human condition as a starting point. Swenson is in residence at
The LAB during August and September, using The LAB as a space for
artistic experimentation to develop her project, The Living
LABoratory, which will manifest as an experimental exhibition
and ultimately a film, Mission Movie. A team of Mission
artists will investigate and excavate the neighborhood, bringing
back artifacts, documentation and artworks to create a site-specific
environment that, in conjunction with gallery hours, will host an
array of events, including music, dance, spoken word, video and
film presentations. The essence of the Mission will be captured
in multiple perspectives and mediums, transforming the gallery space
into an interactive filmic laboratory. This project is supported
in part by The LEF Foundation.

In early June, The Mission lost a symbol of its culture and
heritage when the historic 17 Reasons Why sign
was stripped from the skyline. For more information on the effort
to return the sign to
its rightful place visit www.17reasonswhy.org |

and composer Beth Custer. The LAB, in partnership
with Joe Goode Performance Group and TILT (Teaching Intermedia Literacy
Tools), will host Beth in a range of activities engaging many facets
of the local community. The evening will include presentations and
performances by Lise Swenson, TILT, Joe Goode Performance Group,
Beth Custer and her amazing Beth Custer Ensemble, followed by a

Beth Custer's residency with The LAB is made
possible by Meet The Composer, Inc. and its New Residencies program.
Funding for New Residencies was provided by The Pew Charitable Trusts
with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts
and other generous supporters.
