That Day and That Night and That Day experiments with creating visual narratives for spiritual experiences. Casey Jex Smith considers the absence of a sincere religious voice in contemporary art and attempts to bring art and religion together again, however uncomfortable one may be with the other. He is interested in how God communicates with humans through celestial manifestations such as visions, visitations, impressions, and dreams. Through a mix of strict representation and abstraction, Smith represents these manifestations by visibly connecting faith to the physical world. He will create a site-specific mural and show works on paper in this exhibition at The Lab.
