The LAB is pleased to present an exhibition of soft sculpture
works by Seattle-based artist Jennifer McNeely in the Front
Gallery. McNeely's primary inspiration comes from similar
works from the 1970s as well as the arts and crafts movement
and her own vast collection of nylons, hats, gloves, curlers
and other feminine symbols. McNeely's work demonstrates a
keen interest in the culture of women. She sets her focus
on the time women spend on maintenance, repair and improvement
-- on physical appearance, on relationships, and on the world
around us. McNeely works with the belief that one's character
inhabits personal items; her work transcends a focus on the
object itself. Her beautiful and elegant sculptures are at
once homemade and modern.
