A live activation in The Chapel of Becoming, organized by Chani Bockwinkel in collaboration with Leila Weefur

Songs, Sermons & Sacred Voyeurism extends the aesthetic and spiritual inquiry of The Chapel of Becoming into the body, the voice, and the act of witness. Part performance, part ritual architecture, the work draws on the long tradition of sacred song as a technology of transformation, and on the peep show as a structure of longing, obscured presence, and controlled revelation.

Performers move through the space using techniques of visual obstruction and partial disclosure, making themselves available to be seen and not, extending the exhibition's meditation on thresholds, devotion, and what it means to become. Simultaneously, visitors are invited into sound experiences where vocal performances unfold in intimate isolation, a format of auditory voyeurism where listening borders on lustful and asks listeners to receive the voice as an act of devotion.

Together these modes, the body in motion and the disembodied voice, produce a devotional space that refuses the separation of the sacred from the sensorial.

Featuring performances by Maxe Crandall, Elya Piazza, Snowflake Arizmendi-Calvert, Alma Carmina Marquexz, Styles Alexander, B Dean, Hands, and Mudd the Two Spirit, with additional performers to be announced.
